Narrative:
I am owner and operator of an aerial application business and have been an agricultural pilot for 25 yrs. On jul/mon/97, I was applying dry fertilizer in a field that I had worked 2 yrs before. Most of the area is farm land but there was a row of houses to the west so I worked the field in such a way as to avoid flying over the homes. Several days after the field was finished I was told by the FAA many of the residents were upset and reported the incident and the FAA would have to investigate. Since I had no problem when I worked the field 2 yrs previous I did not think there would be a problem this time. Many times I will not work a field if I think a problem like this will occur. I still do not know what houses reported or if there was just a problem that people became alarmed because I was just flying nearby. I cannot quit working yet but this field is one I will not work again.
