Narrative:

My student, who is working towards his private pilot license, needed to practice his takeoff and lndgs. I told him we would fly to brookhaven airport to practice 'touch and goes.' the night before the flight, since I knew my student and I would be flying to brookhaven airport, I read the information about brookhaven airport in the airport facility directory. The airport is non twred and I was mostly concerned with what direction the traffic pattern turns were made. The next morning, my student and I flew to brookhaven and did 2 'touch and goes.' while flying upwind, someone on the common TA frequency reminded me that, on the weekends 'touch and goes' are not permitted. Then I remembered that this rule was put into effect 4 yrs ago when I was a student pilot. After I was given this information, the next landing was to a full stop. The mistake could have been avoided if I had read the section on brookhaven airport in the airport facility directory thoroughly. I have been flying in this area for several yrs and have just become complacent about airport operating procedures. This reinforces the fact that every 56 days when the airport facility directory is revised, prior to a flight to an airport, even if I happen to fly there on a regular basis, I should read the section about it thoroughly to see if any changes have been made or to refresh my memory.

Title: A FLT INSTRUCTOR IN A C152 FLIES TO BROOKHAVEN, NY, (HWV) TO PERFORM TOUCH AND GO LNDGS WITH HER STUDENT. AFTER SEVERAL TOUCH AND GO LNDGS, A XMISSION REMINDS THE FLT INSTRUCTOR THAT IT IS NOT PERMITTED ON WEEKENDS.

Narrative: MY STUDENT, WHO IS WORKING TOWARDS HIS PVT PLT LICENSE, NEEDED TO PRACTICE HIS TKOF AND LNDGS. I TOLD HIM WE WOULD FLY TO BROOKHAVEN ARPT TO PRACTICE 'TOUCH AND GOES.' THE NIGHT BEFORE THE FLT, SINCE I KNEW MY STUDENT AND I WOULD BE FLYING TO BROOKHAVEN ARPT, I READ THE INFO ABOUT BROOKHAVEN ARPT IN THE ARPT FACILITY DIRECTORY. THE ARPT IS NON TWRED AND I WAS MOSTLY CONCERNED WITH WHAT DIRECTION THE TFC PATTERN TURNS WERE MADE. THE NEXT MORNING, MY STUDENT AND I FLEW TO BROOKHAVEN AND DID 2 'TOUCH AND GOES.' WHILE FLYING UPWIND, SOMEONE ON THE COMMON TA FREQ REMINDED ME THAT, ON THE WEEKENDS 'TOUCH AND GOES' ARE NOT PERMITTED. THEN I REMEMBERED THAT THIS RULE WAS PUT INTO EFFECT 4 YRS AGO WHEN I WAS A STUDENT PLT. AFTER I WAS GIVEN THIS INFO, THE NEXT LNDG WAS TO A FULL STOP. THE MISTAKE COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED IF I HAD READ THE SECTION ON BROOKHAVEN ARPT IN THE ARPT FACILITY DIRECTORY THOROUGHLY. I HAVE BEEN FLYING IN THIS AREA FOR SEVERAL YRS AND HAVE JUST BECOME COMPLACENT ABOUT ARPT OPERATING PROCS. THIS REINFORCES THE FACT THAT EVERY 56 DAYS WHEN THE ARPT FACILITY DIRECTORY IS REVISED, PRIOR TO A FLT TO AN ARPT, EVEN IF I HAPPEN TO FLY THERE ON A REGULAR BASIS, I SHOULD READ THE SECTION ABOUT IT THOROUGHLY TO SEE IF ANY CHANGES HAVE BEEN MADE OR TO REFRESH MY MEMORY.
