Narrative:
En route to orlando, fl, contact was lost with center. Working around WX and with new first officer, we felt like it had been a long time since we had talked with center. This was the time our dispatch called to tell us to contact ZJX on another frequency. There had been continuous conversations on the last frequency we had switched to. 3 possible things could have happened: 1) we never checked in on our last frequency, and both center and us forgot. 2) center forgot about us until it was too late to reach us. 3) we were totally distraction and never heard our call sign (we do not believe this to be the case). Lesson learned: when in doubt, ask the question: 'hello center, XXX radio check, etc.' no conflict with other aircraft or routing problems occurred.
