Narrative:
Failed to intercept sbj 100 degrees after takeoff from ewr. ATIS was the only way to get this information for the arthur kill departure out of ewr. We thought that the information said: to expect to intercept rather than: intercept sbj 100 degrees. So we flew through the course by approximately 3 mi before ATC asked us to re-intercept the course. Apparently we need to be more aware as to what ATIS says. This statement was mixed in with all kinds of NOTAMS which did not help. Needs to be published on the arthur kill departure if that is what they want you to do all the time.
