Narrative:
The flying captain was using the autoplt coupled to the universal GNS-xls GPS. The GPS was set up in flight plan mode using the stored arrival to msp. The last segment of the arrival is a 300 degree heading. The GPS program neglected this heading and proceeded direct msp. The captain noticed the deviation and returned to the correct heading. By this time approach noticed the deviation. There were no conflicts. During this incident, I was heads down reviewing the approach. Caution must be used when stored databases are being used.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF AN LR35 RECOVER FROM A HDG DEV DURING GPS PROGRAMMED APCH PROC. RPTR CITES A FAILURE OF EITHER THE GPS IN THE FLT PLAN MODE OR A FAILURE OF THE INTERFACING WITH THE DATABASE PROGRAMMED HDG.
Narrative: THE FLYING CAPT WAS USING THE AUTOPLT COUPLED TO THE UNIVERSAL GNS-XLS GPS. THE GPS WAS SET UP IN FLT PLAN MODE USING THE STORED ARR TO MSP. THE LAST SEGMENT OF THE ARR IS A 300 DEG HDG. THE GPS PROGRAM NEGLECTED THIS HDG AND PROCEEDED DIRECT MSP. THE CAPT NOTICED THE DEV AND RETURNED TO THE CORRECT HDG. BY THIS TIME APCH NOTICED THE DEV. THERE WERE NO CONFLICTS. DURING THIS INCIDENT, I WAS HEADS DOWN REVIEWING THE APCH. CAUTION MUST BE USED WHEN STORED DATABASES ARE BEING USED.
