Narrative:
On climb from FL350 to FL390 converging traffic was spotted visually and on TCASII at FL390. We stopped climb at FL375 and descended while calling ZJX who had us in radar contact. They said the other aircraft was at FL410 not FL390. We waited until clear and continued our climb. The aircraft did appear to be at FL390 however, and our TCASII equipment was working normally. This occurred 100 mi from chs on a flight from txkf.

Title: AN ACR B767 FLC RPTS AN ENCOUNTER WITH AN ACR DC10 100 NM E OF CHS. THEY BOTH SAW THE OTHER ACFT AND ACQUIRED IT ON THEIR TCASII AND THEY STOPPED THEIR CLB AT FL375 TO AVOID, BUT THE CTLR SAID THAT IT WAS WELL CLR AT FL410.

THIS OCCURRED 100 MI FROM CHS ON A FLT FROM TXKF.
