Narrative:
At 4000 ft, loss of system #1 hydraulics. First officer did a superb job running checklists and talking to dispatch. We declared an emergency and elected to continue to ord. Flight attendant #1 and flight attendant #2 were briefed on our status and I made an appropriate PA. The flight attendants wisely moved our passenger closer to all exits in the unlikely event of an evacuate/evacuation. Unable to raise gear doors because loss of fluid and landing was normal. We rolled clear of runway and stopped. Tug towed to gate. Several passenger commented on flight attendants acting calm and professional. I feel their supervisors should be advised. ATC did not request a report.
