Narrative:
Right-22 was cleared through class D airspace via chkpoint 22 at baltimore martin state on a transition sebound. While busy on the radio, the controller failed to tell us that we must hold at chkpoint 22 before continuing the transition. Special restr area was then violated according to tower operator. We first called martin tower 10 mi north with ATIS information, then asked for clearance through martin's airspace at 500 ft. (From the tower if possible.) this is where they usually take helicopters, we go through this class D airspace several times a week. We were cleared for the transition after confirming we were familiar with chkpoint 22. Clearance was confirmed southeast transition approval via chkpoint 22 at 500 ft. After reaching chkpoint 22 we called tower and proceeded sebound on a 155 degree heading. We were then told that we had gone through a special restr area put into effect. (FSS reported there was a special restr area east of the field only.)
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: R-22 HELI CLRED THROUGH CLASS D AIRSPACE, BUT DUE TO RECENT SPECIAL RESTR AREA A HOLDING POINT HAD BEEN ESTABLISHED WHICH RPTR DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT. TWR ADVISED RPTR THAT HE HAD VIOLATED THE AIRSPACE.
Narrative: R-22 WAS CLRED THROUGH CLASS D AIRSPACE VIA CHKPOINT 22 AT BALTIMORE MARTIN STATE ON A TRANSITION SEBOUND. WHILE BUSY ON THE RADIO, THE CTLR FAILED TO TELL US THAT WE MUST HOLD AT CHKPOINT 22 BEFORE CONTINUING THE TRANSITION. SPECIAL RESTR AREA WAS THEN VIOLATED ACCORDING TO TWR OPERATOR. WE FIRST CALLED MARTIN TWR 10 MI N WITH ATIS INFO, THEN ASKED FOR CLRNC THROUGH MARTIN'S AIRSPACE AT 500 FT. (FROM THE TWR IF POSSIBLE.) THIS IS WHERE THEY USUALLY TAKE HELIS, WE GO THROUGH THIS CLASS D AIRSPACE SEVERAL TIMES A WK. WE WERE CLRED FOR THE TRANSITION AFTER CONFIRMING WE WERE FAMILIAR WITH CHKPOINT 22. CLRNC WAS CONFIRMED SE TRANSITION APPROVAL VIA CHKPOINT 22 AT 500 FT. AFTER REACHING CHKPOINT 22 WE CALLED TWR AND PROCEEDED SEBOUND ON A 155 DEG HDG. WE WERE THEN TOLD THAT WE HAD GONE THROUGH A SPECIAL RESTR AREA PUT INTO EFFECT. (FSS RPTED THERE WAS A SPECIAL RESTR AREA E OF THE FIELD ONLY.)
