Narrative:
Sfo/hnl in addition to clearance to hnl, we requested clearance for the scenic bay departure off of runway 1R. We received this clearance with no required heading after takeoff. After takeoff and prior to turning over to departure control, tower again confirmed the scenic bay departure but with no heading instruction. We maintained runway heading anticipating a clearance to maintain VFR and offshore sfo to the golden gate bridge. Upon initial contact with departure control our scenic bay departure was canceled due to oak traffic and again no heading information. Departure control inquired as to our heading and we informed him it was 001 degrees. He then assigned us a heading of 210 degrees and wanted to know why we were not on a heading of 350 degrees. We informed departure control we were not assigned a heading after departure and were maintaining runway heading. The departure was uneventful and at no time were we in conflict with other aircraft.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: DC10-10 ACFT WITH CLRNC FOR SCENIC BAY DEP WAS HANDED OFF TO DEP CTLR WHO CANCELED THE CLRNC AND QUESTIONED FLC WHY THEY WERE STILL ON RWY HDG.
Narrative: SFO/HNL IN ADDITION TO CLRNC TO HNL, WE REQUESTED CLRNC FOR THE SCENIC BAY DEP OFF OF RWY 1R. WE RECEIVED THIS CLRNC WITH NO REQUIRED HDG AFTER TKOF. AFTER TKOF AND PRIOR TO TURNING OVER TO DEP CTL, TWR AGAIN CONFIRMED THE SCENIC BAY DEP BUT WITH NO HDG INSTRUCTION. WE MAINTAINED RWY HDG ANTICIPATING A CLRNC TO MAINTAIN VFR AND OFFSHORE SFO TO THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE. UPON INITIAL CONTACT WITH DEP CTL OUR SCENIC BAY DEP WAS CANCELED DUE TO OAK TFC AND AGAIN NO HDG INFO. DEP CTL INQUIRED AS TO OUR HDG AND WE INFORMED HIM IT WAS 001 DEGS. HE THEN ASSIGNED US A HDG OF 210 DEGS AND WANTED TO KNOW WHY WE WERE NOT ON A HDG OF 350 DEGS. WE INFORMED DEP CTL WE WERE NOT ASSIGNED A HDG AFTER DEP AND WERE MAINTAINING RWY HDG. THE DEP WAS UNEVENTFUL AND AT NO TIME WERE WE IN CONFLICT WITH OTHER ACFT.
