Narrative:

During climb I was given an altimeter setting of 30.70, read it back, and set the pressure into the altimeter. (Climbing ind approach 124.95, ZID 124.52.) on handoff to ZAU (119.85) I was queried as to my altimeter setting and informed that the real setting was 29.70. Reset altimeter and climbed to 17000 ft. During climb I was busy analyzing an autoplt problem and did not question the high pressure setting after reading it back to the controller, or with no correction from the controller.

Title: BE90 PLT GIVEN AN ERRONEOUS ALTIMETER SETTING BY EITHER IND DEP CTL OR ZID. READBACK WAS PERFORMED AND ACFT LEVELED AT 17000 FT, CLRED TO ALT ON ALTIMETER SETTING OF 30 PT 70. ZAU CTLR CORRECTS THIS ERROR.

Narrative: DURING CLB I WAS GIVEN AN ALTIMETER SETTING OF 30.70, READ IT BACK, AND SET THE PRESSURE INTO THE ALTIMETER. (CLBING IND APCH 124.95, ZID 124.52.) ON HDOF TO ZAU (119.85) I WAS QUERIED AS TO MY ALTIMETER SETTING AND INFORMED THAT THE REAL SETTING WAS 29.70. RESET ALTIMETER AND CLBED TO 17000 FT. DURING CLB I WAS BUSY ANALYZING AN AUTOPLT PROB AND DID NOT QUESTION THE HIGH PRESSURE SETTING AFTER READING IT BACK TO THE CTLR, OR WITH NO CORRECTION FROM THE CTLR.
