Narrative:
We were cleared to taxi to runway 17R at hrl. Same person operating both tower and ground frequencys. I noticed an ATR holding in position on runway 13 which we would cross approximately 1/2 way down runway. Just prior to our crossing tower cleared the ATR for takeoff. I stopped the aircraft immediately with nose partially sticking out on runway 13. Controller saw this and canceled takeoff clearance to ATR42. He then cleared us across runway 13 and nothing more was said. I believe tower felt with our speed during taxi that we would clear the runway before the ATR would have reached our position. However, I'm not sure if he was looking or if he thought he had given us a hold short?
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RPTR STOPS ATR72 WITH NOSE ON RWY 13 AFTER HEARING THE ATR42 IN POS BEING CLRED FOR TKOF. TKOF CLRNC WAS CANCELED BY THE LCL CTLR AND RPTR'S ACFT WAS CLRED TO CROSS THE RWY.
Narrative: WE WERE CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 17R AT HRL. SAME PERSON OPERATING BOTH TWR AND GND FREQS. I NOTICED AN ATR HOLDING IN POS ON RWY 13 WHICH WE WOULD CROSS APPROX 1/2 WAY DOWN RWY. JUST PRIOR TO OUR XING TWR CLRED THE ATR FOR TKOF. I STOPPED THE ACFT IMMEDIATELY WITH NOSE PARTIALLY STICKING OUT ON RWY 13. CTLR SAW THIS AND CANCELED TKOF CLRNC TO ATR42. HE THEN CLRED US ACROSS RWY 13 AND NOTHING MORE WAS SAID. I BELIEVE TWR FELT WITH OUR SPD DURING TAXI THAT WE WOULD CLR THE RWY BEFORE THE ATR WOULD HAVE REACHED OUR POS. HOWEVER, I'M NOT SURE IF HE WAS LOOKING OR IF HE THOUGHT HE HAD GIVEN US A HOLD SHORT?
