Narrative:
XX13Z, dfw approach control from cedar, ATC facility: dfw approach. Location: 49 DME northwest of cedar creek VOR. Aircraft was level at 11000 ft, slowing from 250 KTS to 210 KTS. I used heading select to turn the aircraft to the right to heading 350 degrees. The aircraft was in a 30 degree bank and slowing and the aural autoplt trim warning was sounding as the aircraft slowed and turned. The autoplt trim yellow annunciator also illuminated. As the aircraft rolled out of its turn, the nose pitched up above, the flight director commanded pitch and began a climb. I disconnected the autoplt and autothrottles and returned the aircraft to the assigned altitude of 11000 ft. Total deviation was no greater than 500 ft. Aircraft autoplt was written up and maintenance called upon arrival at dfw. Supplemental information from acn 382310: as the aircraft rolled out on heading, the autothrottles advanced to full power to compensate for a slight underspd and the nose pitched up and aircraft began a climb.

Title: AN MD80 HAS AN ALTDEV AS IT SLOWS DURING APCH TO DFW. AUTOPLT CAUSES THE ACFT TO CLB UNEXPECTEDLY.
Narrative: XX13Z, DFW APCH CTL FROM CEDAR, ATC FACILITY: DFW APCH. LOCATION: 49 DME NW OF CEDAR CREEK VOR. ACFT WAS LEVEL AT 11000 FT, SLOWING FROM 250 KTS TO 210 KTS. I USED HDG SELECT TO TURN THE ACFT TO THE R TO HDG 350 DEGS. THE ACFT WAS IN A 30 DEG BANK AND SLOWING AND THE AURAL AUTOPLT TRIM WARNING WAS SOUNDING AS THE ACFT SLOWED AND TURNED. THE AUTOPLT TRIM YELLOW ANNUNCIATOR ALSO ILLUMINATED. AS THE ACFT ROLLED OUT OF ITS TURN, THE NOSE PITCHED UP ABOVE, THE FLT DIRECTOR COMMANDED PITCH AND BEGAN A CLB. I DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT AND AUTOTHROTTLES AND RETURNED THE ACFT TO THE ASSIGNED ALT OF 11000 FT. TOTAL DEV WAS NO GREATER THAN 500 FT. ACFT AUTOPLT WAS WRITTEN UP AND MAINT CALLED UPON ARR AT DFW. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 382310: AS THE ACFT ROLLED OUT ON HDG, THE AUTOTHROTTLES ADVANCED TO FULL PWR TO COMPENSATE FOR A SLIGHT UNDERSPD AND THE NOSE PITCHED UP AND ACFT BEGAN A CLB.
