Narrative:
Location: dtw tower. Taxied out to west hold line of runway 21L on runway 27R. Given the option to take intersection takeoff there on runway 21L, or to taxi across, make 2 lefts and enter the runway from the other side. Opted for latter to save time as I didn't have tps data for intersection. I was then cleared into position and hold on runway 21L. Entry requried a 135 degree right turn to back taxi, then the 180 degree left to align on runway. While making the 135 degree right, I needed to hug the right side of runway to allow subsequent 180 degree left for line-up. I hugged right just a bit too much, as during the 135 degree right turn, the right mains clipped 1 taxi light 4 ft inside of yellow lines. Was so informed of this by another aircraft and opted to return to gate area and have tire inspected. The light was not broken or bent, just knocked over, and there was no damage to the tire. Return to runway and uneventful takeoff and flight ensued. Lesson learned, haven't made too many 135 degree turns in this airplane, especially while hugging a side. Will be much more careful in future.

Title: FLC OF B727 TURNING ON RWY TO ALIGN FOR TKOF HAS MAIN GEAR HIT A TXWY LIGHT. THEY TAXI BACK TO GATE FOR INSPECTION AND FIND NO DAMAGE.
Narrative: LOCATION: DTW TWR. TAXIED OUT TO W HOLD LINE OF RWY 21L ON RWY 27R. GIVEN THE OPTION TO TAKE INTXN TKOF THERE ON RWY 21L, OR TO TAXI ACROSS, MAKE 2 LEFTS AND ENTER THE RWY FROM THE OTHER SIDE. OPTED FOR LATTER TO SAVE TIME AS I DIDN'T HAVE TPS DATA FOR INTXN. I WAS THEN CLRED INTO POS AND HOLD ON RWY 21L. ENTRY REQURIED A 135 DEG R TURN TO BACK TAXI, THEN THE 180 DEG L TO ALIGN ON RWY. WHILE MAKING THE 135 DEG R, I NEEDED TO HUG THE R SIDE OF RWY TO ALLOW SUBSEQUENT 180 DEG L FOR LINE-UP. I HUGGED R JUST A BIT TOO MUCH, AS DURING THE 135 DEG R TURN, THE R MAINS CLIPPED 1 TAXI LIGHT 4 FT INSIDE OF YELLOW LINES. WAS SO INFORMED OF THIS BY ANOTHER ACFT AND OPTED TO RETURN TO GATE AREA AND HAVE TIRE INSPECTED. THE LIGHT WAS NOT BROKEN OR BENT, JUST KNOCKED OVER, AND THERE WAS NO DAMAGE TO THE TIRE. RETURN TO RWY AND UNEVENTFUL TKOF AND FLT ENSUED. LESSON LEARNED, HAVEN'T MADE TOO MANY 135 DEG TURNS IN THIS AIRPLANE, ESPECIALLY WHILE HUGGING A SIDE. WILL BE MUCH MORE CAREFUL IN FUTURE.
