Captain of an MD88 returned to the gate after taxi out because autobrake would not arm. After return to gate, the electrical power was transferred from the engine generator to the APU, autobrake worked normally. Subsequent takeoff was made with all system working. There was no maintenance action performed.

Narrative:
Taxiing for takeoff, autobrake system would not arm. Taxied back to gate for maintenance. While switching power from engine generators to APU, autobrake system 'fixed' itself. Takeoff was accomplished with no maintenance action performed, all system operating normally.
