Narrative:
At gate in pwm XY00 push new flight attendant got on at XX45. At XX45 2 flight attendants came in cockpit and told me 'you should know our 'a' line is having medical problems and will work in the back so she can keep her feet up and rest.' I immediately went to the back to find our 'a' line crying. She said she was ok -- she called in-flight schedule and would get off in cvg. I said I was concerned for her safety and for the safety of my passenger. I got off and called in-flight supervisor in cvg and talked this over. They did not know about this. We arrived at agreement that if 'a' line could do her duties, we would go, but if I didn't think so, we would cancel the flight or try to get another flight attendant at the layover hotel to cover as we only had three. I went back, talked with the 'a' line and determined we could be safe and she could do all her duties. We proceeded late off the gate. Rest of flight was uneventful.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CAPT OF A B727 IS INFORMED JUST PRIOR TO FLT THAT THE 'A' CABIN ATTENDANT IS PHYSICALLY INCAPACITATED IN THE REAR OF THE ACFT SO INVESTIGATES THE PROB SINCE THE FLT IS NOT LEGAL TO GO WITHOUT THE CABIN ATTENDANT ON DUTY. THE CABIN ATTENDANT SUBSEQUENTLY BECOMES FIT FOR DUTY AND THE FLT TAKES OFF LATE.
