Narrative:

As a captain I am required to take a line check in the aircraft with a check airman every 12 months to maintain my currency. My line check was due in the month of october. I did not receive one in october and at the end of the month I asked my chief pilot if there was a grace month and he told me yes. Later I was informed by a friend that there was not. I did not think that there being a grace month was odd as everything else that has to do with staying current has a grace month. This part of the line check should be made more standard with other parts of training.
