Narrative:
After departing lga upon initial contact with ny departure control flight was cleared to 15000 ft. Passing 6500 ft a TCASII traffic alert was received simultaneously with a transmission from departure control with a clearance to 16000 ft. During ATC transmission to us a TCASII descend, descend command was issued and ATC was advised of our response to the TCASII RA. We were climbing at 2000 FPM when RA received and we transitioned smoothly but concisely to a 1000 FPM descent in accordance with RA. During the evasive maneuver, we saw the highly polished blue and white cessna 172/182 type aircraft with wheel fairings pass no more than 500 ft overhead. We estimate the cessna's altitude was 7500 ft when we passed directly under it at 7050 ft. When conflict was resolved we advised ATC of our near miss and continued normally to chicago.

Title: RPTED NMAC EVASIVE ACTION DSCNT UPON RECEIVING TCASII RA DSCNT COMMAND TO AVOID A C172/182 TYPE ACFT AT APPROX 7500 FT.
Narrative: AFTER DEPARTING LGA UPON INITIAL CONTACT WITH NY DEP CTL FLT WAS CLRED TO 15000 FT. PASSING 6500 FT A TCASII TFC ALERT WAS RECEIVED SIMULTANEOUSLY WITH A XMISSION FROM DEP CTL WITH A CLRNC TO 16000 FT. DURING ATC XMISSION TO US A TCASII DSND, DSND COMMAND WAS ISSUED AND ATC WAS ADVISED OF OUR RESPONSE TO THE TCASII RA. WE WERE CLBING AT 2000 FPM WHEN RA RECEIVED AND WE TRANSITIONED SMOOTHLY BUT CONCISELY TO A 1000 FPM DSCNT IN ACCORDANCE WITH RA. DURING THE EVASIVE MANEUVER, WE SAW THE HIGHLY POLISHED BLUE AND WHITE CESSNA 172/182 TYPE ACFT WITH WHEEL FAIRINGS PASS NO MORE THAN 500 FT OVERHEAD. WE ESTIMATE THE CESSNA'S ALT WAS 7500 FT WHEN WE PASSED DIRECTLY UNDER IT AT 7050 FT. WHEN CONFLICT WAS RESOLVED WE ADVISED ATC OF OUR NEAR MISS AND CONTINUED NORMALLY TO CHICAGO.
