Narrative:

On a downwind vector, IMC, 10000 ft from slc approach control, we got a TCASII TA followed by an RA to 'climb.' I added power and climbed to comply with the RA up to 10500 ft where we got a 'monitor vertical speed.' we advised approach control we were climbing for traffic avoidance. Then after a 'clear of conflict' we descended back down to 10000 ft, the original vector altitude.
