Narrative:
Anc radar maintenance had control of the radar. Primary targets instantly separated from the secondary targets by about 8 mi lateral. Aircraft locations were visually verified by tower to coincide with the beacon target. Aircraft were vectored and sequenced for 3 or 4 mins by the beacon targets and associated position symbol/ARTS iia data tag. Radar was fully restored by maintenance in 4 mins. No loss of separation.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RADAR SYS RELEASED TO RADAR MAINT. PRIMARY RADAR TARGETS SEPARATED FROM ASSOCIATED SECONDARY BEACON SLASHES. CTLR DETERMINED THAT SECONDARY BEACON SLASHES CORRELATED WITH ACTIVE TFC. ACFT WERE VECTORED TO FINAL APCH COURSE. RADAR SYS RETURNED TO NORMAL SVC WITHIN 4 MINS WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
