Narrative:
While taxiing to the gate after landing at ord the left engine reverser unlocked light came on. Left hydraulic pressure and quantity went to zero. We were turning onto M-5 from taxiway M and planned to park at the gate. At this time we started getting smoke in the cockpit. As we started the checklist for air conditioning smoke/fumes in the cockpit the flight attendants came up to tell us there was smoke in the cabin. I could see our gate open just ahead and told ground control that we had smoke in the cabin and wanted to go directly to the gate. They cleared our way immediately and I self parked at the gate. I opened the cockpit window and told the agent to open the forward entry door. I told a ground man to open the aft stair door to help clear the smoke. I made a PA and told the people not to panic, but to leave personal articles behind and immediately leave the aircraft through the forward entry door. I felt that it was safer to deplane though it took me just seconds to reach the gate. It appeared that a hydraulic line failed to the left reverser and sprayed hydraulic fluid into the left engine area and entered the aircraft through the air conditioning system.

Title: AN ACR MD80 FLC EXPERIENCED THE L THRUST REVERSER LINE DEVELOP A HYD LEAK AND THE FLUID WAS INGESTED INTO THE AIR CONDITIONING SYS. AS THE SMOKE AND FUMES ENTERED THE ACFT THE FLC HURRIED TO THEIR GATE WHERE THEY DEPLANED THE PAX THROUGH THE ENTRY DOOR WITHOUT INJURY.
Narrative: WHILE TAXIING TO THE GATE AFTER LNDG AT ORD THE L ENG REVERSER UNLOCKED LIGHT CAME ON. L HYD PRESSURE AND QUANTITY WENT TO ZERO. WE WERE TURNING ONTO M-5 FROM TXWY M AND PLANNED TO PARK AT THE GATE. AT THIS TIME WE STARTED GETTING SMOKE IN THE COCKPIT. AS WE STARTED THE CHKLIST FOR AIR CONDITIONING SMOKE/FUMES IN THE COCKPIT THE FLT ATTENDANTS CAME UP TO TELL US THERE WAS SMOKE IN THE CABIN. I COULD SEE OUR GATE OPEN JUST AHEAD AND TOLD GND CTL THAT WE HAD SMOKE IN THE CABIN AND WANTED TO GO DIRECTLY TO THE GATE. THEY CLRED OUR WAY IMMEDIATELY AND I SELF PARKED AT THE GATE. I OPENED THE COCKPIT WINDOW AND TOLD THE AGENT TO OPEN THE FORWARD ENTRY DOOR. I TOLD A GND MAN TO OPEN THE AFT STAIR DOOR TO HELP CLR THE SMOKE. I MADE A PA AND TOLD THE PEOPLE NOT TO PANIC, BUT TO LEAVE PERSONAL ARTICLES BEHIND AND IMMEDIATELY LEAVE THE ACFT THROUGH THE FORWARD ENTRY DOOR. I FELT THAT IT WAS SAFER TO DEPLANE THOUGH IT TOOK ME JUST SECONDS TO REACH THE GATE. IT APPEARED THAT A HYD LINE FAILED TO THE L REVERSER AND SPRAYED HYD FLUID INTO THE L ENG AREA AND ENTERED THE ACFT THROUGH THE AIR CONDITIONING SYS.
