Narrative:
Returning to slc from gtf. While on downwind leg, slc approach cleared me for a visual runway 34L. After turning base leg for runway 34L approach control cleared me for runway 34R. While on base leg for runway 34R tower (119.05) cleared me for runway 35, told me to contact tower on 118.30. Tower control (118.30) cleared me to land on runway 35. On short final, 250 ft AGL, I contacted tower and asked if they had traffic on runway 35. I was told negative, cleared to land. After landing and clearing the runway, tower told me to contact them by phone. Prior to my landing, another aircraft had landed but did not clear the runway until they were at the end. Tower control should have verified the runway was clear prior to clearing me to land or have me do a go around.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PLT OF A MITSUBISHI MU2B (MU26) OBSERVED AN ACFT ON THE RWY JUST PRIOR TO LNDG ON THE SAME RWY. CTLR LATER ADVISED THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER ACFT THAT WENT TO THE END TO EXIT INSTEAD OF TURNING OFF EARLIER.
Narrative: RETURNING TO SLC FROM GTF. WHILE ON DOWNWIND LEG, SLC APCH CLRED ME FOR A VISUAL RWY 34L. AFTER TURNING BASE LEG FOR RWY 34L APCH CTL CLRED ME FOR RWY 34R. WHILE ON BASE LEG FOR RWY 34R TWR (119.05) CLRED ME FOR RWY 35, TOLD ME TO CONTACT TWR ON 118.30. TWR CTL (118.30) CLRED ME TO LAND ON RWY 35. ON SHORT FINAL, 250 FT AGL, I CONTACTED TWR AND ASKED IF THEY HAD TFC ON RWY 35. I WAS TOLD NEGATIVE, CLRED TO LAND. AFTER LNDG AND CLRING THE RWY, TWR TOLD ME TO CONTACT THEM BY PHONE. PRIOR TO MY LNDG, ANOTHER ACFT HAD LANDED BUT DID NOT CLR THE RWY UNTIL THEY WERE AT THE END. TWR CTL SHOULD HAVE VERIFIED THE RWY WAS CLR PRIOR TO CLRING ME TO LAND OR HAVE ME DO A GAR.
