Narrative:
I was given a heading by ZMA to nassau and was told to cross 40 NM northwest of nassau at 13000 ft. I started my descent to meet the restr, but on the way down I lost the #1 generator. I had an engineer with a total of 200 hours on the panel and a copilot with approximately 300 hours. I was flying the aircraft. I put the airplane on autoplt and started to help the flight engineer with the situation. For a couple of mins I did not pay close attention to my descent rate. The result was that at 40 DME I was 15500 ft. The ZMA controller came on the radio and asked me. I told him it was my mistake. He then cleared me to 2500 ft at 250 KTS and switched me over to nassau approach. I should have given control of aircraft to the copilot and then assisted the flight engineer. I have no excuse for what happened. It was an experience which has opened my mind to this kind of situation.

Title: B727-200 ACFT WITH XING RESTR CLRNC RPTR CAPT DISTR BY GENERATOR FAILURE AND MISSED RESTR.
Narrative: I WAS GIVEN A HDG BY ZMA TO NASSAU AND WAS TOLD TO CROSS 40 NM NW OF NASSAU AT 13000 FT. I STARTED MY DSCNT TO MEET THE RESTR, BUT ON THE WAY DOWN I LOST THE #1 GENERATOR. I HAD AN ENGINEER WITH A TOTAL OF 200 HRS ON THE PANEL AND A COPLT WITH APPROX 300 HRS. I WAS FLYING THE ACFT. I PUT THE AIRPLANE ON AUTOPLT AND STARTED TO HELP THE FE WITH THE SIT. FOR A COUPLE OF MINS I DID NOT PAY CLOSE ATTN TO MY DSCNT RATE. THE RESULT WAS THAT AT 40 DME I WAS 15500 FT. THE ZMA CTLR CAME ON THE RADIO AND ASKED ME. I TOLD HIM IT WAS MY MISTAKE. HE THEN CLRED ME TO 2500 FT AT 250 KTS AND SWITCHED ME OVER TO NASSAU APCH. I SHOULD HAVE GIVEN CTL OF ACFT TO THE COPLT AND THEN ASSISTED THE FE. I HAVE NO EXCUSE FOR WHAT HAPPENED. IT WAS AN EXPERIENCE WHICH HAS OPENED MY MIND TO THIS KIND OF SIT.
