Narrative:

During approach for landing runway 36 at sav, assigned altitude of 4000 ft MSL. While distracted trying to visually identify sav versus hunter aaf, allowed aircraft to drop 500 ft to 3500 ft MSL. While correcting to 4000 ft MSL, received radio call from approach control noting altitude deviation and assigning 2500 ft MSL. Continued to normal landing. No conflict, but made telephone contact with approach control after landing.
