Narrative:

During climb/departure from mci en route to sfo, as aircraft approached 10000 ft MSL, cabin altitude horn sounded. Crew confirmed cabin unpressurized and cabin altitude at 10000 ft MSL. Aircraft was leveled at 10300-10000 ft MSL, horn silenced. Captain used all checklists and procedures in order to restore pressurization. First officer maintained aircraft control and advised ZKC of situation. After all attempts by captain to correct problem were unproductive, captain advised crew of intentions to return to mci. Captain then advised ATC of intentions, declared emergency and assumed direct control of aircraft. Return and landing at mci uneventful and safe. ATC procedures and assistance excellent. Emergency caused no deviations from FARS or ATC procedures.
