Narrative:
Taxiing into the gate, marshaller directed us too far forward and the left engine contacted the jetway. Later I observed that the correct stop point at the gate was not properly marked. Also, there had been recent rain and there was water on the ramp making it difficult to see the markings. Apparently, the marshaller was directing us to the wrong spot. The following might help prevent this type of incident. 1) insure all parking areas are properly marked. 2) if ramp is not, place chocks or additional personnel next to stop point to insure aircraft is stopped at the right spot. 3) use wing walkers for aircraft movements in the gate area. Supplemental information from acn 391517: captain stopped aircraft just as it touched jetway. Marshaller was still trying to have aircraft move forward. The aircraft left engine came into contact with jetway.

Title: MARSHALLER CONTINUES TO MOTION ACFT FORWARD INTO GATE PARKING EVEN AFTER THE ENG TOUCHES THE JETWAY.
Narrative: TAXIING INTO THE GATE, MARSHALLER DIRECTED US TOO FAR FORWARD AND THE L ENG CONTACTED THE JETWAY. 2) IF RAMP IS NOT, PLACE CHOCKS OR ADDITIONAL PERSONNEL NEXT TO STOP POINT TO INSURE ACFT IS STOPPED AT THE RIGHT SPOT. 3) USE WING WALKERS FOR ACFT MOVEMENTS IN THE GATE AREA. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 391517: CAPT STOPPED ACFT JUST AS IT TOUCHED JETWAY. MARSHALLER WAS STILL TRYING TO HAVE ACFT MOVE FORWARD. THE ACFT L ENG CAME INTO CONTACT WITH JETWAY.
