Narrative:
Windshield (pilot side) caught fire in-flight. With all power secured, fire continued. Executed emergency procedures, discharged halon fire extinguisher and put fire out. Used alternate gear extension procedures and landed with no flaps, trim, speed brakes or reverse thrust. Shut down and evacuate/evacuationed aircraft. We did declare an emergency at the start. Crew resource management was great. ATC did an outstanding job. No injuries. NTSB, FAA notified as soon as possible. Investigation is on going. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the captain's windshield overheated and started to burn with 6 inch flames which required using the halon fire extinguisher to put out. The reporter said from the time the flames appeared it took only 6 mins to get on the ground and during this time all the emergency procedures were accomplished. The FAA was notified of this incident.

Title: A BEECH 400A ON APCH DECLARED AN EMER DUE TO THE CAPT'S INTERIOR WINDSHIELD ON FIRE CAUSED BY A DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD HEAT CTLR.
Narrative: WINDSHIELD (PLT SIDE) CAUGHT FIRE INFLT. WITH ALL PWR SECURED, FIRE CONTINUED. EXECUTED EMER PROCS, DISCHARGED HALON FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND PUT FIRE OUT. USED ALTERNATE GEAR EXTENSION PROCS AND LANDED WITH NO FLAPS, TRIM, SPD BRAKES OR REVERSE THRUST. SHUT DOWN AND EVACED ACFT. WE DID DECLARE AN EMER AT THE START. CREW RESOURCE MGMNT WAS GREAT. ATC DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB. NO INJURIES. NTSB, FAA NOTIFIED ASAP. INVESTIGATION IS ON GOING. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE CAPT'S WINDSHIELD OVERHEATED AND STARTED TO BURN WITH 6 INCH FLAMES WHICH REQUIRED USING THE HALON FIRE EXTINGUISHER TO PUT OUT. THE RPTR SAID FROM THE TIME THE FLAMES APPEARED IT TOOK ONLY 6 MINS TO GET ON THE GND AND DURING THIS TIME ALL THE EMER PROCS WERE ACCOMPLISHED. THE FAA WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS INCIDENT.
