Narrative:

I was cleared to taxi from west ramp at midway via taxiway J, turn left on runway 4L, cross runway 31L and hold short of runway 31C. Since our aircraft had been worked on all night for hydraulic problems, I had to do some service checks. After I taxied onto runway 4L, I started to do my check items. After crossing runway 31L I was concentrating on steering checks, and appeared to the tower to be erratic. They told me to stop, which I did, about 20 ft short of runway 31C. I knew I had to hold short, and was slowing down as I did my steering checks. Unfortunately, a B737 aborted takeoff as they probably thought I was going to cross their runway.

AFTER XING RWY 31L I WAS CONCENTRATING ON STEERING CHKS, AND APPEARED TO THE TWR TO BE ERRATIC. THEY TOLD ME TO STOP, WHICH I DID, ABOUT 20 FT SHORT OF RWY 31C. I KNEW I HAD TO HOLD SHORT, AND WAS SLOWING DOWN AS I DID MY STEERING CHKS. UNFORTUNATELY, A B737 ABORTED TKOF AS THEY PROBABLY THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO CROSS THEIR RWY.
