Narrative:
I am a pilot for a single pilot part 135 operation. In sep/97 I had an annual performed on a C206 I use in part 135 operations. The mechanic signed off the aircraft and returned it to duty. Recently, during a routine FAA inspection, an FAA inspector discovered the 5 yr limited life on the propeller had expired in aug/97, a month before the annual was performed. The FAA inspector informed me of possible part 135 violation, and when asked, said I as the pilot would probably not be violated. I asked him if I should submit a NASA form and he stated it wouldn't do me any good. However, I felt this should be reported. In the time from sep/97 to dec/97, 80 hours were put on the aircraft. In the future, I will no longer rely on the mechanic to make sure the aircraft is in a legal, airworthy condition and inform me of upcoming maintenance such as life limited parts.
