Narrative:

Prior to flight, maintenance was aboard to 'repair' a fire warning light that was illuminated for the aft cargo area. The problem was apparently resolved, and we departed for dallas 30-45 mins late. Approximately 45 mins prior to landing, #1 flight attendant advised us that the cockpit had run the test for the fire warning system and, once again, the problem recurred. Nothing further had occurred until 15 mins prior to landing, when 3 chimes came from the cockpit. #1 flight attendant advised all flight attendants that we had 15 mins to land and the signal to evacuate/evacuation (if necessary) would be 'easy victor.' we landed without incident and crash fire rescue equipment equipment met the flight to check on the situation. The captain had us mentally prepare for an evacuate/evacuation -- just to cover all bases. In the back of our minds, we knew that the problem was probably due to a faulty wire. Nevertheless, we were mentally ready to perform evacuate/evacuation procedures. While we were all nervous, we were ready. Passenger remained calm.
