Narrative:

Seneca flying at 7000 ft MSL receiving TA's from salt lake approach. Received advise of twin cessna 11 O'clock position and 3 mi. We saw that aircraft and were told to descend for ogd and were not advised of any additional traffic. Passing through 6200 ft a passenger in the back seat alerted us to the traffic. It was a piper tomahawk a little over 1 wingspan to the north of us. Had there not been someone in the back seat I would not have known about this until later. I am a friend to the CFI who was in the other aircraft. I immediately notified ATC and their response was 'oh yeh, I have a primary target out there.' we felt as though we were being vigilant in our search for other aircraft, but because of the flat light and snow on the ground the tomahawk which was painted white with gray was not seen.
