Narrative:

On J40 between tyi and ric we noticed the gfms was holding left (west) of the airway. My first officer was monitoring on his VOR. As we were checking the points/coordinates, the gfms message light came on with gnp/ralm greater than 2 NM followed by a dead reckoning light. During all of this we were manually correcting back to J40 using the VOR. ZDC inquired if we were having a problem with our navigation equipment. We responded affirmative and were already correcting back via the airway and VOR. The controller never said how far we were off course. Later when he gave us a frequency change he stated that there was a NOTAM out on military jamming of GPS/gfms equipment in our area. We did not find any NOTAM on our current paperwork indicating such activity. Upon arrival at dca I called dispatch to request more fuel for our return leg to mia and she advised us ZDC had called them advising of an off course occurrence with our flight and of the NOTAM. The dispatcher could not find any NOTAM either. After the new flight plan/release was out I went over all the airway NOTAMS and found none. At the bottom of the NOTAM page was a military message stating jamming activity within 225 NM of storey pines range, nc. I advised the dispatcher of this and then asked where the heck is storey pines range, nc, and neither she, nor anybody else she asked, knew where this range was. Somebody finally made a phone call to someone and we found out that this range was somewhere between raleigh- durham and tar river, nc. Upon review of our charts there was nothing to denote the location of this range on our navigation charts by the referenced name in the message. It would have been nice to have a civilian identify of the location of this activity as it pertains to our charts and airways.

Title: A B727 FLC NOTES ON THE VOR THAT THEIR ACFT IS OFF COURSE WITH REGARDS TO THE AIRWAY WHILE USING THEIR GFMS SYS FOR NAV. ATC ADVISES OF MIL JAMMING OF GFMS AND GPS NAV SYS IN THE AREA AND THAT A NOTAM HAD BEEN ISSUED.

Narrative: ON J40 BTWN TYI AND RIC WE NOTICED THE GFMS WAS HOLDING L (W) OF THE AIRWAY. MY FO WAS MONITORING ON HIS VOR. AS WE WERE CHKING THE POINTS/COORDINATES, THE GFMS MESSAGE LIGHT CAME ON WITH GNP/RALM GREATER THAN 2 NM FOLLOWED BY A DEAD RECKONING LIGHT. DURING ALL OF THIS WE WERE MANUALLY CORRECTING BACK TO J40 USING THE VOR. ZDC INQUIRED IF WE WERE HAVING A PROB WITH OUR NAV EQUIP. WE RESPONDED AFFIRMATIVE AND WERE ALREADY CORRECTING BACK VIA THE AIRWAY AND VOR. THE CTLR NEVER SAID HOW FAR WE WERE OFF COURSE. LATER WHEN HE GAVE US A FREQ CHANGE HE STATED THAT THERE WAS A NOTAM OUT ON MIL JAMMING OF GPS/GFMS EQUIP IN OUR AREA. WE DID NOT FIND ANY NOTAM ON OUR CURRENT PAPERWORK INDICATING SUCH ACTIVITY. UPON ARR AT DCA I CALLED DISPATCH TO REQUEST MORE FUEL FOR OUR RETURN LEG TO MIA AND SHE ADVISED US ZDC HAD CALLED THEM ADVISING OF AN OFF COURSE OCCURRENCE WITH OUR FLT AND OF THE NOTAM. THE DISPATCHER COULD NOT FIND ANY NOTAM EITHER. AFTER THE NEW FLT PLAN/RELEASE WAS OUT I WENT OVER ALL THE AIRWAY NOTAMS AND FOUND NONE. AT THE BOTTOM OF THE NOTAM PAGE WAS A MIL MESSAGE STATING JAMMING ACTIVITY WITHIN 225 NM OF STOREY PINES RANGE, NC. I ADVISED THE DISPATCHER OF THIS AND THEN ASKED WHERE THE HECK IS STOREY PINES RANGE, NC, AND NEITHER SHE, NOR ANYBODY ELSE SHE ASKED, KNEW WHERE THIS RANGE WAS. SOMEBODY FINALLY MADE A PHONE CALL TO SOMEONE AND WE FOUND OUT THAT THIS RANGE WAS SOMEWHERE BTWN RALEIGH- DURHAM AND TAR RIVER, NC. UPON REVIEW OF OUR CHARTS THERE WAS NOTHING TO DENOTE THE LOCATION OF THIS RANGE ON OUR NAV CHARTS BY THE REFED NAME IN THE MESSAGE. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO HAVE A CIVILIAN IDENT OF THE LOCATION OF THIS ACTIVITY AS IT PERTAINS TO OUR CHARTS AND AIRWAYS.
