Narrative:
Obtained usual preflight briefing and made non eventful IFR flight from gso to okv. Given approach clearance by dulles approach controller. Upon landing rollout noticed snowplows at far end of runway. Easily stopped in first half of runway with no conflict. When we arrived in the FBO we were informed that the airport had been notamed closed for snow removal. This information was not relayed to us by either the preflight WX briefing or any en route or approach controllers along the way. In checking the computer in the FBO, the NOTAM also did not appear for that airport. The obvious cause of the problem was a breakdown in communication between the origination of the NOTAM and the flight service station and/or controllers in not relaying this pertinent information to the pilots. In the future I will make sure to specifically ask for NOTAMS instead of relying on briefers to automatically give them as part of a standard briefing.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF CPR SMT LANDS AND DISCOVERS SNOW REMOVAL EQUIP ON FAR END OF RWY. ARPT HAD BEEN NOTAMED CLOSED, BUT INFO NEVER PASSED ON TO FLC.
Narrative: OBTAINED USUAL PREFLT BRIEFING AND MADE NON EVENTFUL IFR FLT FROM GSO TO OKV. GIVEN APCH CLRNC BY DULLES APCH CTLR. UPON LNDG ROLLOUT NOTICED SNOWPLOWS AT FAR END OF RWY. EASILY STOPPED IN FIRST HALF OF RWY WITH NO CONFLICT. WHEN WE ARRIVED IN THE FBO WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE ARPT HAD BEEN NOTAMED CLOSED FOR SNOW REMOVAL. THIS INFO WAS NOT RELAYED TO US BY EITHER THE PREFLT WX BRIEFING OR ANY ENRTE OR APCH CTLRS ALONG THE WAY. IN CHKING THE COMPUTER IN THE FBO, THE NOTAM ALSO DID NOT APPEAR FOR THAT ARPT. THE OBVIOUS CAUSE OF THE PROB WAS A BREAKDOWN IN COM BTWN THE ORIGINATION OF THE NOTAM AND THE FLT SVC STATION AND/OR CTLRS IN NOT RELAYING THIS PERTINENT INFO TO THE PLTS. IN THE FUTURE I WILL MAKE SURE TO SPECIFICALLY ASK FOR NOTAMS INSTEAD OF RELYING ON BRIEFERS TO AUTOMATICALLY GIVE THEM AS PART OF A STANDARD BRIEFING.
