Narrative:
While taxiing out for takeoff, we were holding short of approach end of runway 27 at '4.' ground cleared us to 'taxi to runway 18L, cleared to cross runway 27.' and we acknowledged and read back the instructions as given. While crossing runway 27, we noticed a DC10 in position on the other end (runway 9) with just his taxi light on. After crossing and while on the parallel taxiway ground asked if we had copied the 'hold short of runway 27.' we had not received any further instructions after our initial 'cleared to cross runway 27' call. The DC10 did not start its takeoff roll until we had completed our crossing so there was no actual conflict. It just left us wondering if we had missed a call or misunderstood the original call. I assume (perhaps incorrectly) that ground had forgotten he cleared us and held the DC10 in position until we cleared the runway. No further comments were made. When we got back, I called but the shift was changed so I couldn't find out what really happened.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B727 ACFT DEPARTING RAMP FOR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WAS CLRED TO CROSS AN ACTIVE RWY AND CLRNC READ BACK. AFTER FLC CROSSED THE RWY GND CTLR ASKED IF THEY HAD COPIED THE HOLD SHORT CLRNC. THEY HAD NOT AND BELIEVE THE GND CTLR FORGOT HE CLRED THEM ACROSS.
Narrative: WHILE TAXIING OUT FOR TKOF, WE WERE HOLDING SHORT OF APCH END OF RWY 27 AT '4.' GND CLRED US TO 'TAXI TO RWY 18L, CLRED TO CROSS RWY 27.' AND WE ACKNOWLEDGED AND READ BACK THE INSTRUCTIONS AS GIVEN. WHILE XING RWY 27, WE NOTICED A DC10 IN POS ON THE OTHER END (RWY 9) WITH JUST HIS TAXI LIGHT ON. AFTER XING AND WHILE ON THE PARALLEL TXWY GND ASKED IF WE HAD COPIED THE 'HOLD SHORT OF RWY 27.' WE HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS AFTER OUR INITIAL 'CLRED TO CROSS RWY 27' CALL. THE DC10 DID NOT START ITS TKOF ROLL UNTIL WE HAD COMPLETED OUR XING SO THERE WAS NO ACTUAL CONFLICT. IT JUST LEFT US WONDERING IF WE HAD MISSED A CALL OR MISUNDERSTOOD THE ORIGINAL CALL. I ASSUME (PERHAPS INCORRECTLY) THAT GND HAD FORGOTTEN HE CLRED US AND HELD THE DC10 IN POS UNTIL WE CLRED THE RWY. NO FURTHER COMMENTS WERE MADE. WHEN WE GOT BACK, I CALLED BUT THE SHIFT WAS CHANGED SO I COULDN'T FIND OUT WHAT REALLY HAPPENED.
