Narrative:
Being vectored for runway 4R ILS jfk. Over the ocean at 1500 ft MSL, we were VFR. The runway was in sight. Captain said to call the runway in sight (in anticipation of receiving a visual). I objected that airport was IFR. Captain pressed for the call. I was surprised when approach gave us clearance for a visual. Sure enough, we lost sight of the runway and ended up shooting an actual approach down to about 500 ft AGL. I have flown with this captain for 2 weeks this month, and he is always in a big hurry. I sent in a NASA report last week for pushback onto an active taxiway. I will be glad when this month is over. For my part, I could've been a little firmer in my opposition to the visual. We were not unsafe at any time as we were prepared for the ILS, but it sure was illegal.
