Narrative:

Departed vgt XA10 through class B. Contacted las approach after departing vgt. Las approach said my radio was unreadable and to change to another radio. I switched to second radio and was cleared through class B at 4000 ft. I used my ADF compass to mark 4000 ft. This is normal procedure and was as expected. I received this clearance before reaching 4000 ft, and I should have leveled off as normal. The radio was a minor problem, but it must have taken my attention away from my altimeter. As I climbed through 4000 ft, las questioned me about my altitude and I started back down from 4500 ft. Las approach said to stay at 4500 ft as there was no traffic and I remained at 4500 ft until later cleared higher.
