Narrative:
After normal push from the gate, we called for taxi instructions. Company has their own 'ramp tower controllers' and that is our normal procedure to call them for runway assignment and taxi instructions. On this event, ramp tower instructed us to 'taxi to runway 27 hold line, call tower on 118.3.' our ramp tower usually does not do this, but due to some arrangements with ZME, ground and tower, they sometimes save time by handing us off from company ramp control direct to tower without any contact with ZME or ground control. I believe ramp tower told us to do something. They didn't coordinate with ATC. When we called mem tower at 'runway 27 hold line' they asked, who cleared you on the txwys and instructions to hold short of runway 27? We replied, ramp tower said 'taxi to runway 27 hold line call tower 118.3.' tower said they have no authority/authorized to tell us to taxi on the txwys. We followed instructions given and seems we are confused as to who 'miscommunicated' to whom!

Title: B727 FLC ASSUME COMPANY RAMP CTLR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS HAVE THE APPROVAL COORD WITH MEM TWR GND CTL AND TAXI FROM COMPANY RAMP TO THE RWY 27 FOR DEP. TWR ADVISES FLC THIS WAS NOT AUTH OR COORDINATED WITH THE TWR.
Narrative: AFTER NORMAL PUSH FROM THE GATE, WE CALLED FOR TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. COMPANY HAS THEIR OWN 'RAMP TWR CTLRS' AND THAT IS OUR NORMAL PROC TO CALL THEM FOR RWY ASSIGNMENT AND TAXI INSTRUCTIONS. ON THIS EVENT, RAMP TWR INSTRUCTED US TO 'TAXI TO RWY 27 HOLD LINE, CALL TWR ON 118.3.' OUR RAMP TWR USUALLY DOES NOT DO THIS, BUT DUE TO SOME ARRANGEMENTS WITH ZME, GND AND TWR, THEY SOMETIMES SAVE TIME BY HANDING US OFF FROM COMPANY RAMP CTL DIRECT TO TWR WITHOUT ANY CONTACT WITH ZME OR GND CTL. I BELIEVE RAMP TWR TOLD US TO DO SOMETHING. THEY DIDN'T COORDINATE WITH ATC. WHEN WE CALLED MEM TWR AT 'RWY 27 HOLD LINE' THEY ASKED, WHO CLRED YOU ON THE TXWYS AND INSTRUCTIONS TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 27? WE REPLIED, RAMP TWR SAID 'TAXI TO RWY 27 HOLD LINE CALL TWR 118.3.' TWR SAID THEY HAVE NO AUTH TO TELL US TO TAXI ON THE TXWYS. WE FOLLOWED INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN AND SEEMS WE ARE CONFUSED AS TO WHO 'MISCOMMUNICATED' TO WHOM!
