Narrative:
We were originally planned for the heatt arrival. Near amg we were told to expect a rerte due to heatt arrival being closed for WX. Shortly thereafter we were given direct to rsw and the cyy arrival to mia. We turned direct to rsw. While on that heading, we were told by ZJX to turn immediately to a heading of 120 degrees. The first officer was flying and immediately selected a heading of 120 degrees. I looked at TCASII and saw a white diamond at 11 O'clock at our altitude, +/-100 ft at about 8 mi or so. While in the turn, we asked ZJX to confirm the heading since it seemed to be into the oncoming traffic. ZJX confirmed 120 degrees. I told the first officer to turn off the autoplt and increase the rate of turn. The autoplt restr it due to speed and altitude. We got 1 TA and the diamond turned yellow before the other aircraft cleared us to the west. ZJX reclred us to direct rsw and we proceeded without incident. During the turn with the autoplt off, I had the first officer climb a few hundred ft and advised center that we were doing so.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF A B757 TURNED AT THE REQUEST OF ATC DURING CRUISE AND THEN SUBSEQUENTLY INCREASED TURN RATE AND CLBED IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII RESOLUTION. ATC WAS INFORMED OF THE NEED FOR THE CLB AND RECLRED FLT BACK TO PRIOR CLRNC.
Narrative: WE WERE ORIGINALLY PLANNED FOR THE HEATT ARR. NEAR AMG WE WERE TOLD TO EXPECT A RERTE DUE TO HEATT ARR BEING CLOSED FOR WX. SHORTLY THEREAFTER WE WERE GIVEN DIRECT TO RSW AND THE CYY ARR TO MIA. WE TURNED DIRECT TO RSW. WHILE ON THAT HDG, WE WERE TOLD BY ZJX TO TURN IMMEDIATELY TO A HDG OF 120 DEGS. THE FO WAS FLYING AND IMMEDIATELY SELECTED A HDG OF 120 DEGS. I LOOKED AT TCASII AND SAW A WHITE DIAMOND AT 11 O'CLOCK AT OUR ALT, +/-100 FT AT ABOUT 8 MI OR SO. WHILE IN THE TURN, WE ASKED ZJX TO CONFIRM THE HDG SINCE IT SEEMED TO BE INTO THE ONCOMING TFC. ZJX CONFIRMED 120 DEGS. I TOLD THE FO TO TURN OFF THE AUTOPLT AND INCREASE THE RATE OF TURN. THE AUTOPLT RESTR IT DUE TO SPD AND ALT. WE GOT 1 TA AND THE DIAMOND TURNED YELLOW BEFORE THE OTHER ACFT CLRED US TO THE W. ZJX RECLRED US TO DIRECT RSW AND WE PROCEEDED WITHOUT INCIDENT. DURING THE TURN WITH THE AUTOPLT OFF, I HAD THE FO CLB A FEW HUNDRED FT AND ADVISED CTR THAT WE WERE DOING SO.
