Narrative:
While waiting to depart sdl, I became aware that the pattern was saturated. The controller was advising inbound traffic to remain clear of the class D area. He advised cpr jet traffic that there would be 1 departure prior to his arrival and cleared me into position and hold. The other aircraft, on landing roll, cleared the runway. The tower called my n-number, advised of the jet on final, traffic on downwind and was stepped on by other traffic. I confirmed that I was taking off, and started my roll. When I was approximately 300 ft AGL the tower advised that I had not been cleared for takeoff and that he had only given me a TA, prior to my departure. Sdl has been going through extensive training of new controllers. Lcls have worked to accommodate and anticipate the controller. I do not know if the controller on duty was a trainee, but I believe I was caught up in trying to expedite my departure to clear the runway for the traffic behind me. In retrospect, I should have remained in position and asked the controller to repeat his instructions.

Title: PVT PLT IN SMA ACFT IN POS FOR TKOF MISINTERPED TWR INSTRUCTIONS AND TOOK OFF WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: WHILE WAITING TO DEPART SDL, I BECAME AWARE THAT THE PATTERN WAS SATURATED. THE CTLR WAS ADVISING INBOUND TFC TO REMAIN CLR OF THE CLASS D AREA. HE ADVISED CPR JET TFC THAT THERE WOULD BE 1 DEP PRIOR TO HIS ARR AND CLRED ME INTO POS AND HOLD. THE OTHER ACFT, ON LNDG ROLL, CLRED THE RWY. THE TWR CALLED MY N-NUMBER, ADVISED OF THE JET ON FINAL, TFC ON DOWNWIND AND WAS STEPPED ON BY OTHER TFC. I CONFIRMED THAT I WAS TAKING OFF, AND STARTED MY ROLL. WHEN I WAS APPROX 300 FT AGL THE TWR ADVISED THAT I HAD NOT BEEN CLRED FOR TKOF AND THAT HE HAD ONLY GIVEN ME A TA, PRIOR TO MY DEP. SDL HAS BEEN GOING THROUGH EXTENSIVE TRAINING OF NEW CTLRS. LCLS HAVE WORKED TO ACCOMMODATE AND ANTICIPATE THE CTLR. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE CTLR ON DUTY WAS A TRAINEE, BUT I BELIEVE I WAS CAUGHT UP IN TRYING TO EXPEDITE MY DEP TO CLR THE RWY FOR THE TFC BEHIND ME. IN RETROSPECT, I SHOULD HAVE REMAINED IN POS AND ASKED THE CTLR TO REPEAT HIS INSTRUCTIONS.
