Narrative:
After pushback, we started only 1 engine for taxi. Before leaving the ramp, a check of the hydraulics indicated that the right engine pump was inoperative. We had a similar situation earlier. We told ramp control and ATC that we wanted to return to the gate. We were given instructions to return to the ramp area and hold for a gate. While holding for a gate, we called maintenance and shortly thereafter, a maintenance person came to the airplane. He connected to the interphone system from outside the airplane and I then described our problem. During that conversation, I realized that the reason we had no hydraulic pressure on the right hand system during the check of the hydraulics was because the right engine was not running. The right engine was then started and the hydraulic system indicated normal.

Title: AN ACR MD80 FLC WERE TAXIING OUT ON 1 (L) ENG WHEN THEY NOTED THAT THE R ENG HYD PUMP WAS INOP. THEY RETURNED TO THE GATE AREA ONLY TO REALIZE THAT THE PUMP WOULD BE OFF BECAUSE THE ENG WAS NOT RUNNING.
Narrative: AFTER PUSHBACK, WE STARTED ONLY 1 ENG FOR TAXI. BEFORE LEAVING THE RAMP, A CHK OF THE HYDS INDICATED THAT THE R ENG PUMP WAS INOP. WE HAD A SIMILAR SIT EARLIER. WE TOLD RAMP CTL AND ATC THAT WE WANTED TO RETURN TO THE GATE. WE WERE GIVEN INSTRUCTIONS TO RETURN TO THE RAMP AREA AND HOLD FOR A GATE. WHILE HOLDING FOR A GATE, WE CALLED MAINT AND SHORTLY THEREAFTER, A MAINT PERSON CAME TO THE AIRPLANE. HE CONNECTED TO THE INTERPHONE SYS FROM OUTSIDE THE AIRPLANE AND I THEN DESCRIBED OUR PROB. DURING THAT CONVERSATION, I REALIZED THAT THE REASON WE HAD NO HYD PRESSURE ON THE R HAND SYS DURING THE CHK OF THE HYDS WAS BECAUSE THE R ENG WAS NOT RUNNING. THE R ENG WAS THEN STARTED AND THE HYD SYS INDICATED NORMAL.
