Narrative:

We leveled off normally at our final cruise altitude of 16000 ft MSL. Approximately 5 mins into cruise our left oil pressure began to give erratic indications. A few seconds after we noticed that we were also alerted with a caption light 'low oil.' we consulted the appropriate checklist which directed us to shut down the left engine. Upon engine shutdown we elected to return to grr.
