Narrative:
We were at FL290 west of keeler with a clearance of direct elx and depart elx on 085 degree heading. Shortly after departing elx, ZAU directed us to turn right 140 degrees and climb to FL330. We had just started our turn and had climbed about 300 ft when we received an RA to descend. We continued our turn and descended to FL285 and advised the center. TCASII indicated traffic on the nose at 8-10 mi at our altitude of FL290. The other aircraft advised he had an RA also. No TA was received from the center. The other aircraft passed off our left wing (unsure of distance and traffic was not observed visually) about 500 ft above our altitude of FL285. Center then cleared us to FL330 and we complied. We asked center what had happened and he replied his paperwork was handled at his end and we should do our paperwork with our company. That's all we know or were aware of, that's it.

Title: APPARENT LOSS OF SEPARATION BTWN RPTR'S MD80 AND AN UNKNOWN ACFT AT SAME ALT.
Narrative: WE WERE AT FL290 W OF KEELER WITH A CLRNC OF DIRECT ELX AND DEPART ELX ON 085 DEG HDG. SHORTLY AFTER DEPARTING ELX, ZAU DIRECTED US TO TURN R 140 DEGS AND CLB TO FL330. WE HAD JUST STARTED OUR TURN AND HAD CLBED ABOUT 300 FT WHEN WE RECEIVED AN RA TO DSND. WE CONTINUED OUR TURN AND DSNDED TO FL285 AND ADVISED THE CTR. TCASII INDICATED TFC ON THE NOSE AT 8-10 MI AT OUR ALT OF FL290. THE OTHER ACFT ADVISED HE HAD AN RA ALSO. NO TA WAS RECEIVED FROM THE CTR. THE OTHER ACFT PASSED OFF OUR L WING (UNSURE OF DISTANCE AND TFC WAS NOT OBSERVED VISUALLY) ABOUT 500 FT ABOVE OUR ALT OF FL285. CTR THEN CLRED US TO FL330 AND WE COMPLIED. WE ASKED CTR WHAT HAD HAPPENED AND HE REPLIED HIS PAPERWORK WAS HANDLED AT HIS END AND WE SHOULD DO OUR PAPERWORK WITH OUR COMPANY. THAT'S ALL WE KNOW OR WERE AWARE OF, THAT'S IT.
