Narrative:

Aircraft landed in touchdown zone and as the nose gear touchdown occurred a red object appeared on the centerline and we struck it. Copilot was flying the plane. We both saw it at the same time but touchdown speed and relatively low profile of the object didn't allow any time to avoid it. Investigation revealed the object was a tail stand from a cessna caravan that failed to remove it before flight. The aircraft (the cessna caravan) had departed his previous airport en route to harrisburg with the tail stand still attached. His arrival in harrisburg deposited it on the runway before our arrival. The caravan was not the preceding aircraft to us. Perhaps a FOD check from the airport should have been performed at closer intervals and the caravan's pilots should perform a pre- and postflt inspection of their aircraft. The regional jet we were flying required 2 new nose tires as a precaution but the object struck the belly of the aircraft denting and scratching the skin as well.

Title: A CL65 LNDG AT MDT HITS A TAIL STAND THAT HAD FALLEN OFF A LNDG C208 CARAVAN. THE CARAVAN FLC HAD MISSED THE REMOVAL OF THAT ITEM DURING PREFLT.

Narrative: ACFT LANDED IN TOUCHDOWN ZONE AND AS THE NOSE GEAR TOUCHDOWN OCCURRED A RED OBJECT APPEARED ON THE CTRLINE AND WE STRUCK IT. COPLT WAS FLYING THE PLANE. WE BOTH SAW IT AT THE SAME TIME BUT TOUCHDOWN SPD AND RELATIVELY LOW PROFILE OF THE OBJECT DIDN'T ALLOW ANY TIME TO AVOID IT. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE OBJECT WAS A TAIL STAND FROM A CESSNA CARAVAN THAT FAILED TO REMOVE IT BEFORE FLT. THE ACFT (THE CESSNA CARAVAN) HAD DEPARTED HIS PREVIOUS ARPT ENRTE TO HARRISBURG WITH THE TAIL STAND STILL ATTACHED. HIS ARR IN HARRISBURG DEPOSITED IT ON THE RWY BEFORE OUR ARR. THE CARAVAN WAS NOT THE PRECEDING ACFT TO US. PERHAPS A FOD CHK FROM THE ARPT SHOULD HAVE BEEN PERFORMED AT CLOSER INTERVALS AND THE CARAVAN'S PLTS SHOULD PERFORM A PRE- AND POSTFLT INSPECTION OF THEIR ACFT. THE REGIONAL JET WE WERE FLYING REQUIRED 2 NEW NOSE TIRES AS A PRECAUTION BUT THE OBJECT STRUCK THE BELLY OF THE ACFT DENTING AND SCRATCHING THE SKIN AS WELL.
