Level 14000 ft, 280 KTS assigned, wbound, given direct to eliot intersection by center. Center called traffic 10 O'clock, 500 ft above, 5 mi. Received RA with command to descend. Took action to descend and descended to about 200 ft below 14000 ft and notified ATC. Cleared conflict and returned to newly assigned altitude of 17000 ft. Maneuver performed smoothly and safely.
