Narrative:
Over the maspeth tanks on the expressway visual approach to runway 31, we were cleared to slow to 170 KTS, descend from 4000 ft and follow a commuter aircraft on the downwind. While descending, slowing, configuring and searching for the small traffic, we did not hear approach control switch us to tower. Meanwhile, approach control was vectoring other aircraft in the pattern with reference to us, as the tower would have. As a result we landed on runway 31 while still on approach control frequency.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN ACR LGT FLT LANDS AT LGA WITHOUT CHANGING TO TWR FREQ, WITHOUT LNDG CLRNC.
Narrative: OVER THE MASPETH TANKS ON THE EXPRESSWAY VISUAL APCH TO RWY 31, WE WERE CLRED TO SLOW TO 170 KTS, DSND FROM 4000 FT AND FOLLOW A COMMUTER ACFT ON THE DOWNWIND. WHILE DSNDING, SLOWING, CONFIGURING AND SEARCHING FOR THE SMALL TFC, WE DID NOT HEAR APCH CTL SWITCH US TO TWR. MEANWHILE, APCH CTL WAS VECTORING OTHER ACFT IN THE PATTERN WITH REF TO US, AS THE TWR WOULD HAVE. AS A RESULT WE LANDED ON RWY 31 WHILE STILL ON APCH CTL FREQ.
