Narrative:
On approach, lead flight attendant advised odor in cabin near galley. We turned off utility (galley) busses and pulled telephone circuit breaker. Flight attendant then advised some smoke in cabin. Now below 10000 ft. Turned off remaining recirculation fan to open overboard valve and switch packs to hi-flow. Lead flight attendant and additional cabin crew member riding in cabin, advised no smoke and odor dissipating. Total elapsed time 2-3 mins. Now inside 20 mi of lax so called company operations to advise of problem encountered so that they could advise company and maintenance. This allowed us the time to finish checklists and get caught up. I and the first officer agreed no further problem and best to land as soon as possible. On final, no traffic ahead, kept speed up and landed with no further problems. Later found that right recirculation fan had started to overheat due to a clogged filter.
