Narrative:
At lgb airport, on mar/xa/98 at approximately XX00 local time, I inadvertently crossed active runway 16L at taxiway K while giving taxi instruction. I wrongly idented the runway for taxiway C. Three things led to my runway incursion: I was distraction by my student, the weeds have grown in front of the runway signs due to recent rains and need to be cut, and the runway markings have been washed away and need repainting. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: pilot is based at lgb airport. He admitted to being distraction with instructional duties, missing hold short point. He acknowledged that weed abatement had already taken place. He couldn't remember much else about the incident. Airport personnel advised weed abatement was started as soon as equipment was capable, considering inclement WX. Lgb airport signage meets FAA requirements for part 139 air carrier operations. Taxiway C is the same width as runway 16L. Taxiway C has 'long beach airport' painted on it.

Title: SMA CFI DISTR WITH COCKPIT INSTRUCTION AND TAXIES ONTO RWY 16L WITHOUT CLRNC. PLT CITES WASHED AWAY RWY MARKINGS AND SIGNAGE OBSCURED BY WEEDS AS CONTRIBUTING FACTORS.
Narrative: AT LGB ARPT, ON MAR/XA/98 AT APPROX XX00 LCL TIME, I INADVERTENTLY CROSSED ACTIVE RWY 16L AT TXWY K WHILE GIVING TAXI INSTRUCTION. I WRONGLY IDENTED THE RWY FOR TXWY C. THREE THINGS LED TO MY RWY INCURSION: I WAS DISTR BY MY STUDENT, THE WEEDS HAVE GROWN IN FRONT OF THE RWY SIGNS DUE TO RECENT RAINS AND NEED TO BE CUT, AND THE RWY MARKINGS HAVE BEEN WASHED AWAY AND NEED REPAINTING. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: PLT IS BASED AT LGB ARPT. HE ADMITTED TO BEING DISTR WITH INSTRUCTIONAL DUTIES, MISSING HOLD SHORT POINT. HE ACKNOWLEDGED THAT WEED ABATEMENT HAD ALREADY TAKEN PLACE. HE COULDN'T REMEMBER MUCH ELSE ABOUT THE INCIDENT. ARPT PERSONNEL ADVISED WEED ABATEMENT WAS STARTED AS SOON AS EQUIP WAS CAPABLE, CONSIDERING INCLEMENT WX. LGB ARPT SIGNAGE MEETS FAA REQUIREMENTS FOR PART 139 ACR OPS. TXWY C IS THE SAME WIDTH AS RWY 16L. TXWY C HAS 'LONG BEACH ARPT' PAINTED ON IT.
