Narrative:
Our clearance read, 'cleared to dtw, maintain level 12000 ft, flight plan route. Turn right after takeoff.' valencia tower cleared us for takeoff, 'traffic is a military flight.' after takeoff, I cleaned up the airplane after 400 ft AGL and started a r-hand turn. I was climbing at 200 KTS so as to climb above the 8700 ft MSA for our route. After turning about 180 degrees I received a TA. I looked at the navigation display, saw the traffic on the display at 2 O'clock, looked over in that direction, saw traffic, rolled wings level and lowered the nose to slow the climb and get a better view of traffic. Traffic (I believe was an EMB314) passed our right side about 1 mi at our level +/-500 ft. As I turned my head back left to the front windshield, I saw another EMB314 pass by our left side, less than 1 mi, slightly below our altitude. Tower never said anything about a flight of 2 military aircraft and I never thought to ask. Direction and altitude was also not relayed. Looking at TCASII, I saw 1 target and that's all I saw when looking outside. The flight must have been loose with the lead having the transponder on. Next time I will ask some questions when given a TA like this one.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: POTENTIAL CONFLICT EXISTED BTWN A DEP G4 ON CLBOUT FROM VALENCIA, SVVA, AND 2 MIL EMB314'S FLYING A LOOSE FORMATION. THE WING ACFT HAD HIS XPONDER TURNED OFF SO THE G4'S TCASII DID NOT DETECT THAT ACFT. FO SAW IT VISUALLY.
Narrative: OUR CLRNC READ, 'CLRED TO DTW, MAINTAIN LEVEL 12000 FT, FLT PLAN RTE. TURN R AFTER TKOF.' VALENCIA TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF, 'TFC IS A MIL FLT.' AFTER TKOF, I CLEANED UP THE AIRPLANE AFTER 400 FT AGL AND STARTED A R-HAND TURN. I WAS CLBING AT 200 KTS SO AS TO CLB ABOVE THE 8700 FT MSA FOR OUR RTE. AFTER TURNING ABOUT 180 DEGS I RECEIVED A TA. I LOOKED AT THE NAV DISPLAY, SAW THE TFC ON THE DISPLAY AT 2 O'CLOCK, LOOKED OVER IN THAT DIRECTION, SAW TFC, ROLLED WINGS LEVEL AND LOWERED THE NOSE TO SLOW THE CLB AND GET A BETTER VIEW OF TFC. TFC (I BELIEVE WAS AN EMB314) PASSED OUR R SIDE ABOUT 1 MI AT OUR LEVEL +/-500 FT. AS I TURNED MY HEAD BACK L TO THE FRONT WINDSHIELD, I SAW ANOTHER EMB314 PASS BY OUR L SIDE, LESS THAN 1 MI, SLIGHTLY BELOW OUR ALT. TWR NEVER SAID ANYTHING ABOUT A FLT OF 2 MIL ACFT AND I NEVER THOUGHT TO ASK. DIRECTION AND ALT WAS ALSO NOT RELAYED. LOOKING AT TCASII, I SAW 1 TARGET AND THAT'S ALL I SAW WHEN LOOKING OUTSIDE. THE FLT MUST HAVE BEEN LOOSE WITH THE LEAD HAVING THE XPONDER ON. NEXT TIME I WILL ASK SOME QUESTIONS WHEN GIVEN A TA LIKE THIS ONE.
