Narrative:
Departed GGG at approximately XA15 on apr/fri/98. Advised departure of southeast departure at 5500 ft to och. Flew over och, no runway lights (pilot controled lighting). Beacon was on as well as red lights on end of runways. Contacted GGG approach and asked if och was open. Controller replied, to his knowledge, yes. Circled and saw nothing unusual about airport. No markings on runways and AWOS said nothing about possible closure. Set up for final. During flare GGG advised airport closed for runway resurfacing. 2 seconds later nose gear sheared by 4 inch rise in intersecting runway. If airport is closed to fixed wing aircraft even temporarily, then maybe the runway should be clearly marked, AWOS changed and the beacon turned off. I thought simply that there was a problem with the pilot controled lighting.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A C182 PVT PLT LANDS AT NIGHT ON AN UNLIT RWY AT A CLOSED ARPT AT OCH, TX. PLT THOUGHT THAT WHEN THE PLT CTLED RWY LIGHTING DID NOT COME ON THAT IT WAS A PROB WITH THE SYS. HE LANDED ANYWAY.
Narrative: DEPARTED GGG AT APPROX XA15 ON APR/FRI/98. ADVISED DEP OF SE DEP AT 5500 FT TO OCH. FLEW OVER OCH, NO RWY LIGHTS (PLT CTLED LIGHTING). BEACON WAS ON AS WELL AS RED LIGHTS ON END OF RWYS. CONTACTED GGG APCH AND ASKED IF OCH WAS OPEN. CTLR REPLIED, TO HIS KNOWLEDGE, YES. CIRCLED AND SAW NOTHING UNUSUAL ABOUT ARPT. NO MARKINGS ON RWYS AND AWOS SAID NOTHING ABOUT POSSIBLE CLOSURE. SET UP FOR FINAL. DURING FLARE GGG ADVISED ARPT CLOSED FOR RWY RESURFACING. 2 SECONDS LATER NOSE GEAR SHEARED BY 4 INCH RISE IN INTERSECTING RWY. IF ARPT IS CLOSED TO FIXED WING ACFT EVEN TEMPORARILY, THEN MAYBE THE RWY SHOULD BE CLRLY MARKED, AWOS CHANGED AND THE BEACON TURNED OFF. I THOUGHT SIMPLY THAT THERE WAS A PROB WITH THE PLT CTLED LIGHTING.
