Narrative:
On taxi out I noticed a high fuel temperature in left wing. We performed checklist which states that 'quick throttle movements should be avoided...flameout possible.' I called maintenance control over the radio about our problem. (No cautions, just a high gauge reading.) dispatch listened in also. Maintenance told us to monitor engine parameters as per checklist and informed us we were legal to depart. On initial takeoff roll, I saw the fuel temperature gauge pointer go into 'red band' and #1 engine itt was abnormally low. I aborted takeoff and we called maintenance again and returned to gate. I reported this incident to union safety officers also -- 'fuel abnormal temperature' checklist is under 'power plant' not 'fuel.' checklist addresses: 'throttle'...turboprops have 'power levers' not 'throttles.' I did brief first officer and selected 'continuous relight' on the igniters for takeoff.

Title: ATR72 ACFT HAD HIGH FUEL TEMP IN L WING. FLC CONSULTED WITH MAINT WHO SAID THEY WERE LEGAL TO DEPART. ON TKOF ROLL TEMP WAS IN RED BAND, SO TKOF WAS ABORTED AND ACFT RETURNED TO THE GATE.

MAINT TOLD US TO MONITOR ENG PARAMETERS AS PER CHKLIST AND INFORMED US WE WERE LEGAL TO DEPART. ON INITIAL TKOF ROLL, I SAW THE FUEL TEMP GAUGE POINTER GO INTO 'RED BAND' AND #1 ENG ITT WAS ABNORMALLY LOW. I ABORTED TKOF AND WE CALLED MAINT AGAIN AND RETURNED TO GATE. I RPTED THIS INCIDENT TO UNION SAFETY OFFICERS ALSO -- 'FUEL ABNORMAL TEMP' CHKLIST IS UNDER 'PWR PLANT' NOT 'FUEL.' CHKLIST ADDRESSES: 'THROTTLE'...TURBOPROPS HAVE 'PWR LEVERS' NOT 'THROTTLES.' I DID BRIEF FO AND SELECTED 'CONTINUOUS RELIGHT' ON THE IGNITERS FOR TKOF.
