Narrative:
As PF, I reported field in sight to PNF while on base. PNF reported field in sight to approach control. Approach control said 'cleared to land' switch to tower. After landing, noticed the communication switch had not been switched over and realized tower never had been contacted. Contributing factors: PNF was distraction by looking for field and the go around button was depressed on the thrust rating panel. I use the go around button on the thrust rating panel (as a technique) as a reminder that we have been cleared to land. However, I learned after this incident that the PNF also uses this button as a memory aid for something else.

Title: MD88 ACFT ON APCH AND LNDG FORGOT TO CONTACT TWR FOR LNDG CLRNC.
Narrative: AS PF, I RPTED FIELD IN SIGHT TO PNF WHILE ON BASE. PNF RPTED FIELD IN SIGHT TO APCH CTL. APCH CTL SAID 'CLRED TO LAND' SWITCH TO TWR. AFTER LNDG, NOTICED THE COM SWITCH HAD NOT BEEN SWITCHED OVER AND REALIZED TWR NEVER HAD BEEN CONTACTED. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: PNF WAS DISTR BY LOOKING FOR FIELD AND THE GAR BUTTON WAS DEPRESSED ON THE THRUST RATING PANEL. I USE THE GAR BUTTON ON THE THRUST RATING PANEL (AS A TECHNIQUE) AS A REMINDER THAT WE HAVE BEEN CLRED TO LAND. HOWEVER, I LEARNED AFTER THIS INCIDENT THAT THE PNF ALSO USES THIS BUTTON AS A MEMORY AID FOR SOMETHING ELSE.
